News that Elder Mackey was coming back to the mission home with his new companion was big news last week!
Rarely does one single mission turn out to have so many potential recruits. Soon after returning to the mission field, Elder Mackey was paired with Elder Brown. Then, a week later, Elder Mackey sent me the following in an email:
“My new companion always wants to talk about nudity. Not necessarily sex, just being naked. I pointed this out to him, and he said he just really likes naked bodies. Interestingly, he didn’t specify naked girls’ bodies! I think the brethren would want to meet Elder Brown!”
So, was this just an excuse for Mackey to find his way back to the mission home?
We think so. And that’s just fine.
The missionary boys got here last Wednesday, and that night the brethren explained the True Order of the Priesthood to a rather shocked looking Elder Brown. They asked Brown if he’d like to be called and ordained to the order…and his answer was a polite but emphatic “No.”
This had happened once before, and that time around the missionary wanted to leave right away. But not Elder Brown. When the brethren told him that he was free to join the men in the sauna and stay the evening, he didn’t seem like he was in a hurry to leave. In fact, his stay at the mission kept getting extended another day so he could join the brethren for evening discussions at the dinner table, and afterwards in the sauna.
About two days ago, I was feeling pretty desperate. The brethren and Elder Mackey kept telling me, “maybe today during companionship study the boys will broach the subject while your cameras are rolling…” But until yesterday, nothing had happened.
So while this update to MormonBoyz is happening a day later than expected, I think most of the brethren here agree that the end result was definitely worth waiting for!
