In the award-winning Romeo Julian, director Sam Abdul has assembled a handsome and talented cast as well as a professional production crew to deliver to the screen an ambitious concept in adult entertainment - the first gay romantic musical!<br />The screenplay, music and lyrics were penned by the creative hand of actor and musician Michael Anton. Until Romeo Julian, Michael had been working with Sam as his graphic artist for Forum Studios box covers and one-sheets. Sam employed Michaels musical talents to fulfill the previously untapped potential that a true musical based on a male to male love story offered. Those efforts won Michael AVNs Best Music Award in the process.<br />Grant Lar and Johnny Rey who portray the main characters, fill the screen with their exuberance and youthful good looks. Their coupling earned AVN awards for Best Erotic Sex Scene and Johnny Rey as Best Actor. Casting 33 sexual and non-sexual roles was a pleasurable task, with the inclusion of Randy White, Ja Broderick, Jerry Cruise, Rod Garetto, Hank Hightower, Carlos Montana, Donnie Russo, Tyler Scott, Dallas Taylor, Brett Williams, and plenty of surprise cameos.<br />It was overwhelmingly gratifying to Abdul for Romeo Julian to be nominated for 10 AVN awards and win four of them, including Best Director of the Year. Abdul had the vision and drive to conquer the unique challenges that were inherent in this project. Not only had he demonstrated command of the video form, but marketing and promoting seemed to be Sams fortes as well.
